Event Details
Newent Celebrates is hosting Newent-on-Sea in Newent Park. Bring the family for a seaside-themed afternoon beside the lake – pretend the ducks are seagulls and keep an eye on your chips! And if you visit the Museum of Boardgames, nearby in The Shambles, you’ll be able to find out whose tern it is.
2026 is Newent’s 800th birthday as a market town and throughout the summer Newent Celebrates is hosting an event each month. Newent-on-Sea is the fourth with one more to come in September.
Today’s event brings a touch of the British seaside to the heart of the town, celebrating the simple pleasures of traditional coastal holidays. For generations, day trips to the seaside have been a much-loved part of summer — think buckets and spades, ice creams on the promenade, deckchairs, and the sound of the waves in the background.
No seaside visit would be complete without the classic treats either—perhaps even a stick of rock with the town’s name running through the middle, as colourful as it is stubborn on the teeth (and best enjoyed before giving too much thought to the dentist).
This themed afternoon captures that spirit closer to home, offering a chance to relax, have fun, and enjoy a slice of seaside nostalgia without the journey. Whether it’s memories of family trips to the coast or introducing a new generation to those timeless traditions, Newent-on-Sea is all about easy-going enjoyment, community, and a classic British summer atmosphere.
