Event Details

Newent Celebrates is hosting D-Day Commemorations in Newent Park. Bring the family for a musical tribute by the lake.

2026 is Newent’s 800th birthday as a market town and throughout the summer Newent Celebrates is hosting an event each month. The D-Day anniversary is the second with more to come in July, August and September.

D-Day commemorations take place on 6th June, marking the anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy in 1944 during the Second World War. This year marks the 82nd anniversary of that pivotal moment, when thousands of troops from Britain, the United States, Canada and other Allied nations landed on the beaches of northern France in a coordinated effort to begin the liberation of Western Europe.
Today, D-Day is remembered as a day of reflection and gratitude. Communities across the country pause to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who took part, as well as all who served during the war. Local commemorations offer an opportunity to come together, remember those who gave so much, and ensure that their legacy is not forgotten.
