When will this be happening?
From late January through February 2026. Please scroll down for the dates and movies (or view the poster).
What is it?
The 5 Villages Film Festival is a month long event, beginning on 31 January 2026, that brings award-winning features and thought-provoking shorts by student film-makers to rural communities across the Gloucestershire/Herefordshire borders, May Hill and Forest of Dean.
It’s about bringing the art of cinema to rural communities that might not otherwise have the opportunity to see how film is evolving, while offering emerging talent the chance to engage with audiences who wouldn’t ordinarily see their work
In just our hall?
Each village involved (5 in all) will take it in turn to host a movie. That’s one movie night in every village hall spread out over the month. Clifford’s Mesne will host the final movie.
Who is behind the Film Fest?
The Mesne Movies team plus others from their own local village hall committees. We also have a Consulting Curator. He has access to a huge library of short movies (all produced by film & tv students) and has been advising us on which to include at the Film Fest.
What format will each evening take?
First a student movie short showcasing emerging filmakers from BA Film & TV Production at the University of Gloucestershire. Then an intermission followed by a full-length, theatrically released movie, preceded by trailers of the next movies to be shown in the Film Fest series.
