The Yew Tree, with its unusual sign, is located at the May Hill end of the village.
In recognition of the great service it has provided to the local community, the Forest of Dean District Council includes the pub in its list of Assets of Community Value.
The Yew Tree is currently closed for refurbishment. We look forward to its re-opening.
The closest available pub is now the Glasshouse Inn, where you can drink ales and eat fine food sourced from local suppliers, all in the very traditional setting of a charming, olde worlde, English pub.
Do checkout their opening times as there are days when the pub is closed. The Glasshouse Inn is also on Facebook.
Getting there
By car:
It’s less than a 5 minute drive from the village – just follow the lane south east out of the village. It will take you directly to the pub. The postcode GL17 0NN will help your satnav.
On foot:
Same route but may 25 minutes or more depending on whether you take a stroll or go for a brisk walk. Tip: Don’t forget to take your torch and a jacket. The woods are quite cool and dark – there’s no street lighting and it’s always a few degrees cooler in there. On the way back you will probably hear rustling and see eyeshine – that’s the deer, rabbits and other woodland inhabitants. Spooky!
It’s a fairly flat route (albeit with dips). There is no paving, just tarmac and woodland floor.
If you find yourself climbing a steep hill, you’ve taken a wrong turn!
