The Village Hall was built in 1863 for the dual purposes of school and church. In 1934 the Clifford’s Mesne School closed. In 1958 the villagers formed the Trustees of the Village Hall of Clifford’s Mesne and purchased the building for the sum of £175. It’s been in use ever since.
What’s the hall used for today?
Along with the church, the village hall is at the heart of community life in Clifford’s Mesne and can accommodate around 50 people at table or a little less depending on the event type and seating layouts.
Wakes (no booking fee for the bereaved of deceased Clifford’s Mesne residents)
Who runs the hall today?
We have a Village Hall Committee. The elected members are also the trustees. (The trustees, in 1994, registered the Clifford’s Mesne Village Hall with the Charity Commission as charity number 301503).
The committee and all other individuals helping with the hall and its activities do so on a voluntary basis.
Hall membership is fully inclusive and is open to any citizen from Clifford’s Mesne and the surrounding area without prejudice.
